Protect Your Home and Office With AFFF Fire Extinguishers
With the implementation of the Fire Safety Order (2005) by the UK government, establishments are made to ensure that they provide adequate fire safety measures in the work place and that certain employees are given certain duties should a fire occur and that these employees are trained to enable them to carry out their responsibilities. Hence, fire extinguishers that are safely mounted on fire extinguisher brackets should be provided and that these devices should also be easily seen and accessible.
Because there are several kinds of fire extinguishers that would appropriately extinguished different types of fires, most establishments have been seen with two different kinds of extinguishers to cover the most causes of fire that can occur within their environment. It is therefore not surprising to see an AFFF fire extinguishers and a CO2 fire extinguisher together in one work place as the former is the suitable in extinguishing agent for both combustible solids and flammable liquids and the later is perfect for sensitive electrical equipments like computers.
Given the awareness on fire protection measures at their work place, it is therefore only natural that individuals implement the same to protect their own homes. However, one must be careful in choosing the right kind of extinguisher as it does not mean that what must be good for your office is also suitable for your home because these are two different environments and while there maybe some similarities when it comes to certain causes of fire, kitchen fires are not necessarily seen in work places unless it is a café or a commercial kitchen. You can still opt for the same combination of extinguishers as it could give your home adequate protection but you can also get a Wet Chemical Fire Extinguisher and a CO2 combination as the former is best suitable to take out fires caused by hot cooking oils and fats which would be great for kitchen fires.
As much as you may be prepared to fight fires with the right equipment, it is still best to establish some preventive measures so that there would be no need to put out fires. A good way to do this is to provide some kitchen safety tips that family members need to follow in order to avoid the possibility of kitchen fires – never leave any cooking unattended; never store flammable items near the stove; avoid the build-up of grease in the cooking area and always keep handles turned away from you while cooking to avoid knocking off the pan.
Accidents do happen especially when there are children around, so it is also important that the fire extinguisher is safely mounted to a fire extinguisher bracket so that children would not be able to reach them. It is also best to keep flammable liquids out of reach and properly stored. These are just simple ways that we need to remember and do in order to keep our homes and work places safe. Being informed and prepared is still the best way to protect us and avoid unnecessary risks in case a fire does ensue.
