Coping With Heartburn And Acid Reflux And How To Reduce Its Frequency

Sometimes I get heartburn but I am luckier than many thanks to the fact is mostly something that happens only occasionally. The condition we know as heartburn can feel disturbingly uncomfortable and it affects many people and some experience the symptoms quite regularly.

The times when I experience the symptoms heartburn gives us it is usually only for a short period of time and it goes
almost as quickly as it arrives. I am lucky though and other people find that the symptoms of heartburn are a frequent problem it becomes a normal event and they learn how to deal with it.

The cause of heartburn is a result of failure in the normal operation of a valve in the back of the throat known as a sphincter valve. The valve should close when not passing food through the throat which then prevents and of the stomach gases rising and attacking the throat but if it fails to operate correctly and the result is heartburn caused by these acidic gases rising to attack the surface of the throat tissue. Knowing this makes it easy to understand the burning feelings felt when the valve fails and we have the symptoms of heartburn and acid reflux.

Should the valve remain open over a considerable period of time then the lining protecting the tissues of the throat could become damaged but temporary heartburn should not usually lead to any significant problems. It is important to get a diagnosis and treatment from a trained medical practitioner to be sure about your health and be guided accordingly.

There are some actions we can take that may help reduce some of the symptoms of heartburn attacks and cut down how often attacks may develop. Heartburn and acid reflux do seem to occur for me most often when I am already tired and I therefore assume if you can improve your sleeping habits it may help your resistance to such attacks.

There are some foods that seem to encourage the problem where heartburn occurs and reducing coffee consumption and spicy foods may help reduce the frequency. Smoking may also be a factor which is probably due to the throat suffering the effects of the smoke and adding to the problems.

As with so many conditions and health issues a more balanced and healthy diet together with a regime of exercise and ensuring you sleep properly can all help. Managing your eating exercise and sleeping patterns may lower the likelihood of heartburn as well as cutting back the number of bouts you experience of this and the acid reflux symptoms.
